Apparently when the housing scheme started on Cross Skigersta Road, in the early 1930's, the main water supply there for most domestic purposes was the rain water which fell from the roofs of houses and was collected in water tanks or barrels. Therefore, in a part of Ness without many natural springs, Tobair 'Anndra' was greatly appreciated as it provided a fresh water source for those in that part of Cross Skigersta Road.
